323 - Yokomo Wing 4 Works '91

To be honest, for several reasons, I've never tought  to buy more cars after my Tamiya BBX. Until Yokomo announced the re-release of its Super Dog Fighter Works '91.
A car that I adored, that I've under used and that I've sold for low bucks.
A car that, to me, means memories of a special Cristhmas Eve... nostalgia as usual.
So, the reason that I decided to buy this re-release, when available, are memories.
Until that moment I will save some money.

322 - I Have To Find The Time

I still haven't found the time to recuperate my BBX from our home in the mountain and I can't wait to start to clean it to understand where this new car is more prone to wear out and to understand its strong points.

For sure I will keep the Reedy motor in place of the Orion one (it's always hard to step back to a powerful motor to a less power one).

Another point regards the ESC: I'm not sure I could keep the KO one (I'm so disappointed by me, it's the second one that I fry) so, probably, I will swap with one of mine Robitronic Speedstar 2 (or with a new one)... keeping alive the old school is getting harder.

321 - First Time in More Than 35 Years

For the first time in more than 35 years I experienced a battery shortcut: after charging one of my Team Orion Rocket Pack and plugged it with the ESC it started to smoke... never happened in this years in the hobby.
Unfortunately something happened also to the ESC: brake and reverse seem to be gone, I will make a try to reset them before swapping it with another one.

320 - That Insane Motor Swapping

When Tamiya release the first BBX images, before ordering it, I wondered if my Reedy Modified Pink Dot could be the right motor to put in but in buiIding it I decided to go with a Team Orion Element 19t instead bought on porpouse.

With the 19t the car run really fast on tarmac or other hard surfaces but on the grass it resulted a bit lazy so, during last holidays, I decided to swap the motor with my good old (and practically unused) Reedy.

318 - I Brought My BBX On Holiday!

During the past two weeks we have been on holidays in our cottage in the alps. I brought my BBX to have some fun after the long months it spends on a shelf awaiting for moments like this.

317 - Random Update

The first attempt to find tires setup for my BBX that will be good for grass keeping its stock look have been a fiasco: my target was to not exceed in tires width so I've ordered four 2.2 pepper pot narrow wheels but when wrapped it with the, ever great, Schumacher Mini Spike the car looks like a shopping cart. Fiasco!

316 - Closed

It's a common opinion that building and running RC cars is a losers thing, but I love RC cars.
In my opinion talking and writing about things that I can't do is most for losers.
Unfortunately living in this floating jail avoid me to follow my passions and my passions regard mostly the invention of the wheel and its bind with legs, engines and motors.
So I quit with this blog, it will remains on line but it won't be updated because I haven't new stuff to share.

315 - Another Claim To The Big Names!

From a few I got some problems with my eyes that sometimes become much dry and it prevents me work on my little cars and to stand to much on the PC (that is a bigger problem considering that I'm an office worker).

Being away from the work bench means that I surf the Web (eyes allowing) reading about RC cars things.

One of the thing that I strive to avoid and that seems to be the mainstream choice about brushed ESC is the use of the Hobbywing Quicrun 1060 ESC.

I own one of them, it comes with in a box that imitates Novak and Tekin boxes sizes in the good old days but it seems to be more suited for a stupid chinese bluetooth device.

The thing that I dont really like is that there are a lot of beautiful cars: new builds and restomod projects that unfortunately falls in quality when I notice wich ESC is used.

To be honest: I'm not interested about its performances or whathever because I will continue to look for something that will looks cool as the ESCs in the good ol days, that carries the appeal of the golden era and that doesen't come from China.

So my daily claim to the big names of the RC industry is about brushed ESC: you own the know-how, keep this hobby great offering to old guys something cool to put in their little cars!

314 - Tamiya BBX: Front Dampers Connectors

In building my Tamiya BBX I've been a little disappointed by the plastic X5 ball connectors used in the lower attach of front dampers. I didn't thought it again 'till today when I've seen that Tamiya suggest as replacement the #54503 Hop-Up Options Buggy Damper Aluminum Suspension Ball (OP-1503).
To be honest I prefer to upgrade my cars to give them more durability instead to spare some grams (or less) in weight so I have to check in my screws boxes if there are some leftovers that will fit.

313 - A Pair Of Futaba R203GF

I have been forced to posticipate all the works I intend to do on my Tamiya BBX because fever and other seasonal specialties are hitting hard from the end of last week. Also the post about the new Futaba receivers have been postponed: I couldn't stand I front of a monitor.

Concerning receivers, of course, Im morally obligated to underline that they came with te "made in china" mark of the shame and, pointed this out I have to say that I bought directly an additional receiver to keep my  Wild One in running conditions.

The second receiver is the same of the one that came in the 3PV box, a  R203GF. I've choosen to go for the receivers without telemetry because, not beeing a racer, it is a feature that would only make things more complicated.

I've seen around the Web there are different brands of compatible receivers, most without antenna (or with internal one) but, in my opionion, if the cost isn't near to the half of an original Futaba one it isn't a good deal.

312 - Futaba 3PV

Last week my new radio has arrived: a Futaba 3PV, I guess there is nothing to add about this radio because it is on the market from a long but I want to spend a word about the first feeling I had grabbing it after the unboxing: it seem very well builted with out creacks spite the mark of the shame on its box.

Finding a new radio haven't been easy because I was focused on a KO one, unfortunately nothing they offer was in my budget (and for a KO I had a higher limit than for the other japanese brands) so for a while I considered the different options between Sanwa and Futaba (none of the new stupid chinese brands have been considered, of course) and finally I've choose what satisfied my need for a linear design considering that, in my budget range, features are more or less the same and that Sanwa are a little less clean as design.

311 - What Happens To My EX-5

In the good old days it has been love at first sight with the KO Propo EX-5 in its original version exposed in the shop located between the bus station and my high school. Purchase the 2,4ghz UR one has been a dream that came true and I've used it for many years, probably more than I should.

Years ago in swapping the batteries carrier with a new one, forcing it to in its slot I've broken a thin plastic wall and in the attempt to save the radio I've used some glue and some urethane spacers that hasn't resist to the bump with the floor two weeks ago.
Forced to buy a new radio I've realized that, considering my budget limit, I've waited to much and no more KO radios are available on the market.

310 - About Radios

Radios I will never forget, that I will put in a frame and that I will never complain about. Next, the newcomer, will come with the mark of shame and I will forever complain about the japanese brands that chose to product in China: I will never understand how is possible to waive to a mark of quality as "Made in Japan".

Ok, this isn't made in Japan but witness that it is possible to produce abroad without doing it in the crap factory.

309 - Tamiya BBX, New Parts!

Between the end of 2023 and the first days of 2024 I've ordered and received some stuff for my Tamiya BBX.

Only a pair of Hop-Up options that will give to the car a bit of durability and that will maximize its performance: the slipper clutch and the alluminum cross member that strenghteen the roll cage where dampers are screwed.

Considering that to install the slipper clutch the trasmission will be removed from the chassis I will catch the opportunity to revise the ESC/motor cabling that I never liked since when I decided to use connectors instead of direct soldering.

I will also install the receiver of the new radio that for that time will be arrived (but I'm not happy to use something that is not made in Japan, no I will never stop to complain).

308 - A New Radio Have Been Ordered

After an afternoon of search a new radio have been ordered. Last week after registering my new BBX on my EX-5 memory and after the short shakedown my radio fall to the ground defining its destiny. Unfortunately no KO radio have been found to replace my EX-5 UR bought more than a decade ago so i switched to another japanese brand but the new stuff isn't made in Japan.

307 - Dremel Versatip

During my last soldering session I've been widely in trouble due to the shortage of tips and the difficult to find some spare ones both in the local shops and online so I've decided to recur to a big name that, for sure, should secure the spares availability.
In addition this Dremel Versatip is easy to carry around and doesn't need a power source to work.
