230 - Motors, Motors and Motors Again!

Today I was in the mood to order the motor for my Wild One but still in doubt about the which one could be the right one between the Dirt Tuned (that I already own) and a GT Tuned.

So I've made another "quick" search on the Net and, considering that theese two Tamiya motors seem to be not much used (and valued) to find some opinions, I've compared the torque and rpm values of the two with the Sport Tuned one that preserved the gears diff in the past years compared to the Super Stock BZ that destroyed them:

Sport Tuned 18.300 rpm, 34,32 mN-m (converded from 350 g-cm);

GT Tuned 19.000 rpm, 49,03 mN-m (converded from 500 g-cm);

Dirt Tuned 17.000 rpm, 37,24 mN-m (Tamiya's official).

The GT Tuned has a number of rpm close to the Sport Tuned but, unfortunately, its torque it is the same of the Super Stock BZ one as claimed by Tamiya (49 mN-m).

The Dirt Tuned has the lower rpm value but its torque is only a bit over the Sport Tuned one so I will opt for it.

So I've only this option: testing the Dirt Tuned in the Wild One and verify if the car will be decently fast and if the use of this motor will avoid diff breakages. If yes in a second moment I will consider to open the motor and swap the bushings with bearings, if not... I refuse to think about it.

229 - New Motor Needed

In the wait for the new BBC I would to fix o finish some other cars although and after most could be retired. The first chosen is the Wild One (that won't be retired) that will be rebuilted, as said, with its plastic chassis but considering a motor swap to preserve the differential from more breakages.

Driving it with the Super Stock motor upgraded with ball bearings is amazing but I prefer a more conservative choice.
I've considered to use the Dirt Tuned disassembled from my Hi-Lux Monster Racer but it's impossible to swap easly its bushings to bearings, so the search goes on.

228 - Call Me Fool!

Concerning my Wild One the decision have been made: I will keep the original plastic bathtub chassis instead of switching it with the chinese made aluminum one bought months just because it doesn't meet my policy to avoid chinese stuff for my RC cars.

Call me fool but using it would me feel very uncomfortable.

I'm only displeased for the waste of money but it have been a impulse buy so I will try to sell it.

227 - Stretched

For its last use this servo had its cable gathered with tape on its bottom. To be used on the BBX I will purchase the cable have been stretched using a heat gun to reach its original shape.

226 - Breakages, Breakages and Breakages!

Breakages, breakages and breakages! Talking about my Delta Ray Buggy I'm experiencing a lot of plastic parts breakages I drove it only on my parent's dirt driveway so no big jumps or obstacles, only a few of bumps but plastics are crumbling: rear gear case, gears covers and a rear hub carrier... inexplicable to me but frustrating.

Building and maintain vintage cars it's a pain in this way and, to be honest, if the new BBX will be more robust and easy to maintain most of my cars will be retired.

225 - BBX Servo Search Is Ended

The search for the steering servo to be used in the new BBX is ended and it's ended in the way I prefer: without spending a single Euro! I saved from my unsed RM-01 the Blue Bird BMS-990DMG low profile servo previously used in my Super Astute.

Of course I would prefer a Japanese made servo, better a KO but their mid range products are more ore less disappeared from the market and their high end stuff is a little over budget for me. Blue Bird is my favourite alternative for japanese made products and this one is a great servo with coreless motor, dual ball raced and with full metal gears. It will be perfect for the newest Tamiya release!

224 - 31 Grams!

Months ago I've bought the chinese made aluminum chassis that claims to be an upgrade for the WO/FAV switching the original plastic one. It comes with some 3D printed part useful to complete it and I have to admit that it is well made.

Since the purchase it I've been haunted by the doubt it could be a bit heavy and, considering that the main issue with the WO/FAV regards the trasminssion, a gain in term of weight could not be a great thing.

Today I've decided it was the day to put the two chassis on the scale to check if the aluminum one is heavier: it's 31 grams over the the original one.

This result isn't much encouraging becuse I'm planning to switch the BZ motor in my Wo to a Dirt Tuned one to avoid to stress the differential gears.

223 - The Dark Side Of The Force

The wait for the new BBX buggy is long yet and, as in every long wait, leave space to speculations. Usually, before building a car, I study the manual to understand I coudl improve it with some extra or hand mande parts but this time I'm pretty convinced that I will not modify it because, IMO, there isn't anything to improve.

Of course I'm ready to use a different paint scheme, to swap the driver head to simplify my life in finishing the car and to install the slipper clutch but basically it will be build according to the manual.

There is only a thing that I don't like... four to be honest: chrome wheels!

I hate chrome wheels, I hate everything chrome to put it all and if Tamiya will not provide a set of white wheels I will be forced to give in to the dark side of the Force.
